What AI literacy really means

Why it matters
AI literacy means skills, knowledge and understanding that allow providers, deployers and affected persons […] to make an informed deployment of AI systems, as well as to gain awareness about the opportunities and risks of AI and possible harm it can cause."

- Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (EU AI Act), Article 3(56)
AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Claude and DeepL are already part of everyday work. Article 4 of the EU AI Act turns this definition into an obligation for every organisation using AI. Article 26 adds a separate, firm requirement for staff operating high-risk AI systems - our current programmes cover Article 4; Article 26 is scoped individually on request.

Five dimensions, not just a checklist

Foundations
AI literacy is more than basic knowledge. Research on AI literacy in the workplace points to five dimensions this training is built around:
    • Understanding
    • Reflection
    • Behaviour
    • Motivation / confidence
    • Human–AI interaction

Built for real work, not IT teams

Who it's for
Suitable for non-technical participants - employees and self-employed professionals across functions, and anyone who uses AI tools on behalf of their own business:
    • Operations
    • Admin
    • Sales
    • Marketing
    • HR
    • Finance
    • Customer support
    • Legal ops
    • IT coordination
    • Management
    • Freelancers & self-employed

AI Literacy at Work

What you'll learn - and how
Four daily habits, ten concrete skills, one structured 4-hour curriculum - not just definitions.
  • 1. Scope the task
Is AI suitable here? Is the tool approved? Will the output be used internally, externally or in a sensitive context?
  • 2. Avoid sensitive data
Protect personal, client, confidential and business-sensitive information before it ever reaches an AI tool.
  • 3. Fact-check the output
Check for hallucinations, bias, outdated information and unsupported claims before using the result.
  • 4. Escalate when risk is high
Involve a manager, legal, security or data protection contact when the task or data is sensitive.
After this training, you will be able to:
    • Explain what AI, generative AI and large language models are in plain language.
    • Identify which tasks are suitable — and unsuitable — for AI support.
    • Protect confidential, personal, client and business-sensitive information.
    • Check AI-generated outputs before using them in professional work.
    • Know when human review, manager review or escalation is needed.
    • Recognise where AI already appears in your everyday work tools and workflows.
    • Use prompts more clearly, effectively and responsibly.
    • Recognise hallucinations, bias, outdated information and overreliance.
    • Recognise AI-enabled cyber security risks such as phishing, deepfakes and social engineering.
    • Describe the basic purpose of AI literacy documentation under the EU AI Act.
